The Ombudsman found that a patient's care and treatment was 'appropriate' after a complaint was made about the management of her fluid intake, her bedsores, and mobility issues whilst in hospital  It was also found it was not a failure by the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust to prevent the patient’s discharge from hospital.

An investigation has found that a failure by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to properly manage a patient's Macular Service appointments led to her eyesight deteriorating to below the legal driving limit.

A Trust’s failure to perform an examination of a patient on admission to hospital meant he was not assessed by medical staff against this baseline during his time on the ward.  The investigation also identified a number of record keeping failures by the Trust while caring for the patient.

The patient complained that he should have had a scan and been assessed for surgery on his groin, about the attitude of the consultant who saw him, and that he was discharged from the hospital without any pain relief.

The Ombudsman has commended the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust for the thorough way it investigated a complaint about the care and treatment received by a patient at a nursing home.

A report by the Ombudsman has criticised elements of the care provided to a patient by Spire Independent Healthcare, based in Blackpool (Lancashire). The patient was referred to Spire under a waiting list initiative operated by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.
