A man said the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs failed to investigate his reports of unlawful activity by a waste management company.  

We upheld parts of the complaint.

An Ombudsman’s report has criticised the Northern Ireland Environment Agency for not keeping proper records about its decision firstly to commission, and then ultimately not proceed with, an independent engineer’s report relating to effluent treatment structures at a location on the River Faughan at Drumahoe.

A number of recommendations have been made by the Ombudsman after an investigation revealed that unclear guidance to applicants led to confusion over eligibility of Single Farm Payments.

Ombudsman finds no maladministration over decision to approve discharge of effluent into stream, but recommends Agency apologise to complainants for failings during complaints process.
